It’s expected to take the #1 spot on Billboard’s U.K. chart on Friday.
LISTEN, PLAYBACK, REPEAT: Sam Smith is back, ya’ll, and thankfully for us, he’s still sorting through all of his personal brokenhearted business by basically putting his journal to smooth beat. A member of my own Brit truth-telling trifecta—holding court with fellow slay-me-with-your-emotional-realness icons Adele and Ed Sheeran—Smith serves up more of his signature post-break up angst with the simple yet soaring, ‘Too Good at Goodbyes.’
FOR THE RECORD: ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’ is Smith’s first fresh track to be released since picking up an Oscar for his hot drop of the latest Bond anthem, ‘Writing’s on the Wall,’ in 2015. That followed his 2014 debut, when he burst onto the scene with his debut album, In the Lonely Hour—every damn download of which should have come with a box of Kleenex as a gift with purchase and automatic ‘Do Not Call’ block on your ex’s number in your phone. (Ya heard.)
THE FINAL SPIN: Smith’s full new album—touting 10 songs on the standard version, plus four more bonus tracks on the super-size LP—is scheduled for streaming in time for the holidays. Touting collaborations with hit-makers including Timbaland, sign me up for all the glorious, emotional masochism to rock around the Christmas tree to.
