More Than 100 Emmys Have Already Been Given Out, So Let Me Catch You Up

Seriously, you’re days behind before Monday night’s ceremony even starts.

Guys, last weekend in La La Land was BIZZY (read: busier than busy), as the below-the-line, behind-the-scenes stars—and a few famous faces—were celebrated at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were given out over a two-part ceremony that will air this Saturday at 8pm ET on FXX.

Now, you know I would never let you look like an uninformed fool at your Emmys viewing party (I pity ‘em, Mr. T-style), so here’s a hot take on the good-as-gold highlights you need to know before Monday’s big show.

  • Game of Thrones and Saturday Night Live are tied for the most wins so far, snagging seven each—making them the ones to beat in their respective series categories
  • Fellow Drama Series hopefuls The Handmaid’s Tale, The Crown and Westworld come the closest to nipping at Game of Thrones’ dragon tail with three wins each on the board
  • On the comedy side, the couldn’t-be-more-different duo of Atlanta and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are neck-and-neck, also scoring a hat trick with three wins apiece— setting up a no-laughing-matter showdown between the two Comedy Series frontrunners
  • Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown won every Emmy it was nominated for—a total of five—in a posthumous salute to its celebrated star and creator
  • Jesus Christ Superstar Live In Concert scored five wins, including Best Variety Special (Live), simultaneously anointing three of its uber famous producers— John Legend (also up for Lead Actor in a Variety Special on Monday), Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice—EGOTs, the illustrious group of folks who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony
  • For the first time in Emmy history, all four (very deserving) guest acting winners were African-American: Tiffany Haddish (Saturday Night Live), Katt Williams (Atlanta), Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) and Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale)
  • The Academy most definitely did not tell RuPaul’s Drag Race to sashay away: the show has scored three Emmys so far, including a third straight (can’t resist a play on words!) win for RuPaul Charles for Host For a Reality-Competition Series, making it the show to beat as it bucks for its first Outstanding Reality-Competition Series trophy on Monday
  • In other fabulous news, the Queer Eye reboot also nabbed three wins, including the highly coveted Structured Reality Program award
  • The limited series that’s gotten the most love so far is American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, with four statuettes under its designer belt, boding well for its prospects on murdering the competition come Monday night
