The best part? The “real” people doing their damn thing like no one is watching.
I think Taylor Swift is fine. Though I’m a little over her seemingly unending awards season winning streak (really, Grammys?) and thought she came off sort of bizarrely in last year’s Vanity Fair cover story. I think her tabloid fodder-style life is entertaining, and one-in-every-four of her singles becomes my anthem of the moment, inspiring me to rock as I walk (ok, strut-trot) down the sidewalks of the city.
I mean, c’mon. “I Knew You Were Trouble”? Don’t even get me started.
The first video off her appropriately titled forthcoming album, 1989—an ode to Her year of birth, out on October 27th—is all-in ‘80s pop nouveau fun. The retro-ish beat, the bouncily simple and repetitive lyrics, the distinctive Taylor vibe and the feeling of I already know what I’ll want for Christmas and it’s getting this song out of my head all make “Shake It Off” a hit that’s probably about to happen.
What do you think of Taylor? Do you take the pre-release video as a warning sign that makes you want to run through the streets howling “Save yourselves!,” or is it your reason for getting up in the morning?
